a cautionary tale

A cautionary tale about saving money.

Of course some of her problems were caused by lack of planning in her youth - but it sounds like most of her trouble now is because she is disabled and lost her IT job because of that.  She did go to college, she did find a good job, and then she lost it.

She wasn't just some slacker who wasn't trying to make a living - which from talking to a lot of so-called "conservatives" in my life seems like what they think all poor people are - lazy.

Well, newsflash, most poor people work harder than anyone and most do not want a handout, they just want a way to support themselves and their kids with some dignity.

And that kind of misfortune could happen to anyone - since most people in this country live from paycheck to paycheck and are in debt up to their eyeballs, they would do well to think about how they are just one injury or one illness away from the same sort of fate.

Needless to say, the woman in the article is voting for JRE.  His is the only person running who constantly talks about poor people and disabled people in this country, and who knows what the heck he's talking about in that regard, and is totally sincere about his commitment to fight for people who have no voice (and no lobby with which to bribe politicians).  Sorry - had to get my plug in for JRE today. :)

orange flowers

With my P&S Canon though, sometimes I am still able to get a good closeup. This one I like a lot - a small orange flower with a bee having its lunch (Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden).
